Committees
Three working groups. This is where criteria are agreed, a common definition for the sector is proposed, and that position is taken to the people who write the rules.
A committee is where professionals from the sector work together to agree on criteria and write public documents. Without that, each institution measures in its own way, calls the same thing by another name, and nothing can be compared. A definition is not decreed: it holds when the institutions that use it agree with it.
The technical committees are created by the Board of Administration and have been provided for since the association was founded. Their members are not remunerated.

The sector definitions
Standardising concepts and proposing indicators is the remit of this committee, and the association has already published the first of those definitions: average length of stay, the figure that says how many days, on average, a patient spends admitted. Each institution had been calculating that figure in its own way, and so the numbers of two institutions could not be compared.
The association published which calculation counts and put an open calculator online: you enter the data for your period and it returns the average length of stay, and it also flags when your own figures do not add up between themselves.
Scientific Committee
Coordinator: Luiza Dal Bem
In practice: defines, in one single way, what each figure in the sector means, so that data from one hospital can be compared with data from another.
Conducts studies and scientific papers on post-acute care hospitals and clinics, and proposes the standardisation of concepts and the creation of indicators for the sector.

Regulatory Committee

In practice: talks to the people who write the rules of health care, so that the post-acute care hospital is regulated for what it actually does.
Builds, fosters and strengthens the regulation of post-acute care in Brazil. It is made up of experienced professionals, some of whom have worked in this market since the concept first appeared in the country. It also aims to establish channels of dialogue with the competent bodies, such as ANVISA and other sector entities.

Communication and Market Committee

Works directly with everyone involved, to discuss and put forward proposals that allow the sector to develop, building a position that shows what the segment contributes to society and to the balance of the health system.

How the sector is regulated today.
Where things stand
Today a post-acute care hospital is classified under the same rules as a hospital that treats the critical phase of an illness, although it does something else: caring for someone who has come through that phase and cannot yet go home.
The association's position
That there should be a classification of its own for post-acute care hospitals and clinics, with written rules for what these units really do.
Method
Keeping channels of dialogue open with the competent bodies, such as ANVISA (the Brazilian health regulatory agency), and with other sector entities. The Regulatory Committee is the technical entry point for this work.
